GENERAL CONSULTATIONS

Comprehensive, Two-Person Checks for Peace of Mind

General Consultations

At Quality Veterinary Care Centre (QVCC), we elevate the standard of the routine vet visit.

Our General Consultations utilise a unique Team Consulting Model, ensuring your beloved pet is effectively checked by two dedicated professionals, a qualified nurse and a veterinarian, during every appointment. This meticulous approach, combined with our comprehensive, head-to-tail examination style, means nothing is missed. When you choose QVCC, you are choosing a commitment to quality care and a proactive approach to your pet’s health and well-being.

THE QVCC TEAM CONSULTING MODEL

DOUBLE THE CARE, DOUBLE THE SAFETY

Our commitment to gold-standard care is reflected in our consultation process. We believe that by working collaboratively, we achieve a more thorough assessment, enhancing patient safety and ensuring all your concerns are addressed.

How the Team Consulting Model Works

Every general consultation is a partnership between our highly skilled veterinary nurses and veterinarians:

Nurse-Led Admission and History
Nurse-Led Admission and History
Your appointment begins with one of our experienced, qualified veterinary nurses. The nurse will greet you, take a detailed history of your pet's main concerns, diet, and lifestyle, and address any immediate questions you have.
The Head-to-Tail Physical Exam
The Head-to-Tail Physical Exam
The nurse then performs a complete and systematic head-to-tail physical examination. This includes checking the teeth, eyes, ears, coat, weight, heart and lung sounds, abdomen, and movement.
Veterinarian Review and Plan

The nurse provides the veterinarian with a detailed summary of your pet's history, the owner's concerns, and any observations or issues flagged during the physical exam. The veterinarian then enters the room to address specific concerns, confirm findings, and formulate a clear diagnostic or treatment plan with you.

The Benefit: Checked by Two People

The Benefit: Checked by Two People

The core advantage of this model is safety. Having two qualified professionals assess your pet means:

  • Mitigated Human Error: As humans, we can all overlook details. The dual-check system significantly reduces the chances of missing subtle symptoms or concerns.
  • Focused Expertise: The nurse is able to focus on the detailed physical data collection, allowing the veterinarian to focus on diagnosis, complex treatment planning, and ensuring you fully understand the next steps.
  • More Efficient Care: This collaborative approach often allows us to manage follow-up, minor re-visits, or booster vaccinations efficiently, ensuring we can see new and urgent cases quickly.

THE FOUNDATION OF HEALTH: THE NOSE-TO-TAIL EXAM

At QVCC, a general consultation is a comprehensive health check, not just a quick look at a symptom. We treat every visit as an opportunity to review your pet’s overall wellness.

Our methodical head-to-tail examination includes:

  • Oral Health: Assessing teeth for tartar, plaque, gum disease, and retained baby teeth. (Dental health is critical to organ function—we check this closely every time).
  • Eyes, Ears, and Skin: Checking for signs of infection, foreign bodies, allergies, or tumours.
  • Cardiopulmonary System: Auscultating the heart for murmurs and the lungs for abnormal sounds.
  • Musculoskeletal System: Checking limbs, joints, and spine for signs of pain, arthritis, or mobility issues.
  • Weight and Nutrition: Accurate weighing and discussion of diet to manage obesity or weight loss, which are huge factors in long-term health.
  • Temperature and Hydration: Assessing general vital signs.

This rigorous, full-body check is what defines quality preventative medicine.

BEYOND CONSULTATIONS: PREVENTIVE HEALTH AND WELLNESS

Every general consultation is a partnership between our highly skilled veterinary nurses and veterinarians:

Vaccination and Parasite Control Guidance

We provide expert guidance on the best preventative regimes for this region:

  • Tailored Vaccinations: Ensuring your pet is protected with the appropriate Queensland vaccinations. We offer superior options, such as using the intranasal vaccine for Canine Cough to reduce reaction risk and using the highest level of coverage available.
  • Superior Parasite Prevention: We consult on products that offer the best coverage, including the non-over-the-counter options like yearly flea/tick and heartworm injections. These methods provide superior coverage that is not reliant on you remembering to administer a monthly product, offering peace of mind against dangerous diseases.

Product and Dietary Guidance

Our consulting team is trained to provide expert advice on all products we stock.

  • Screened Products: We only recommend and stock products that we have thoroughly screened and used ourselves, focusing on effective, veterinary-grade solutions rather than generic pet shop options.
  • Prescription Diets: We advise on the right prescription and therapeutic diets to manage specific health conditions, from kidney disease and joint problems to weight management and food sensitivities.

PREPARATION AND BOOKING YOUR APPOINTMENT

We aim to make booking and attending your general consultation as easy as possible.

  • What to Bring: Please bring any relevant medical history, your pet’s current medications, and a fresh sample of your pet’s faeces if you are due for a worm check.
  • Nervous Pets: If your pet is nervous, please let our reception team know when booking. We can advise you to wait in one of our separate waiting areas (indoor or outdoor, dog or cat zones) or even wait in your car and be brought straight into the consult room.
  • Making a Booking: We encourage you to book online or call our friendly reception team to schedule your next consultation.

NURSE LED POST-OPERATIVE CARE AND DISCHARGE

To support busy owners and certain routine tasks, we offer Nurse-Only appointments for issues that do not require a full veterinary examination. This is often an efficient way to manage:

  • Booster Injections (for chronic conditions like Cytopoint).
  • Revisit Checks (where the pet is recovering well and just needs a quick check).
  • Post-Operative Suture Removal and wound checks.
  • Nail Clipping and simple groom requests.

If the nurse has any concerns during a nurse-only appointment, they will immediately consult with the on-site veterinarian to ensure your pet is seen quickly.

WELLNESS AND LIFE STAGE CARE

Wellness and Life Stage Care

We offer comprehensive guidance tailored to every life stage, helping you anticipate your pet's changing needs:

  • Puppy and Kitten Care: Your first consultation includes a free Puppy/Kitten Pack, containing a folder for vaccination certificates, a program outlining necessary care (vaccines, de-sexing, parasite control) for the first 15 months, and care handouts. We encourage new owners to visit us immediately for this initial health check.
  • Senior Pet Care: As pets age, their needs change rapidly. We recommend more frequent check-ups for senior pets (often twice yearly) to catch conditions like arthritis, dental disease, and early organ decline before they become serious issues.
