PHYSICAL THERAPY / REHABILITATION

Restoring Mobility and Comfort

Physiotherapy / Rehabilitation

At Quality Veterinary Care Centre (QVCC),

Our Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation service is dedicated to restoring your pet’s mobility, managing chronic pain, and ensuring a fast, comfortable recovery after surgery or injury. Our programs are based on structured, veterinary-guided techniques, such as Electromuscle Stimulation (EMS) and tailored exercise plans, delivered in an exclusive 8-week package. We partner with you to provide the gold standard of rehabilitative care, ensuring your companion enjoys the best possible quality of life.

STRUCTURED REHABILITATION FOR OPTIMAL RECOVERY

Our program is specifically designed to address two main needs: accelerating recovery after orthopaedic or soft-tissue surgery, and providing long-term relief for chronic conditions like arthritis.

When Is Rehabilitation Recommended?

Post-Operative Recovery
Post-Operative Recovery
Essential after procedures like cruciate ligament repair, fracture repair, or complex soft tissue surgery to rebuild muscle mass and restore joint function.
Arthritis Management
Arthritis Management
Provides non-invasive pain relief and improves joint flexibility, reducing reliance on medication and increasing comfort for aging pets.
Injury Management
Injury Management
Supporting recovery from sprains, strains, or chronic lameness.

THE QVCC 8-WEEK REHABILITATION PACKAGE

We utilise a structured, phased approach to ensure consistent progress and measurable results. Our full package typically runs over eight weeks, combining in-clinic treatment with at-home homework.

Electromuscle Stimulation (EMS)

The initial weeks focus on rebuilding essential muscle mass and addressing pain at a foundational level.

  • Treatment Method: We use Electromuscle Stimulation (EMS) to gently contract muscles. This is vital for patients recovering from surgery where muscle atrophy (wastage) is common, as they cannot actively use the limb.
  • Goal: To safely re-engage muscle groups, maintain muscle tone, and improve circulation without placing strain on the injured joints or surgical sites.

Structured Physical Therapy Exercises

Once initial muscle tone is established (typically after four weeks), we transition to guided, active exercise sessions.

  • In-Clinic Sessions: Your pet attends weekly sessions where our trained nurses lead tailored movement exercises, focusing on balance, coordination, controlled weight-bearing, and increasing the range of motion.
  • Dedicated Space: Sessions are held in our Rehabilitation and Physio Area, which is equipped with tools like cavaletti poles, balance discs, and controlled movement spaces to facilitate safe exercises.
  • Weekly Check-Ins: You visit the hospital once a week for your scheduled treatment and assessment.
  • Home Care Guides: Following each session, you are provided with a personalised home guide. This includes detailed instructions, images, and schedules for the exercises you need to continue performing at home between visits. This ensures continuous, low-impact work that accelerates recovery and integrates therapy into your daily routine.

PARTNERING WITH YOU: THE HOME GUIDE

Consistency is key to successful rehabilitation. Our program is a partnership that extends into your home.

THE BENEFITS OF A STRUCTURED PROGRAM

By following a veterinary-supervised, multi-modal rehabilitation plan, your pet will experience:

Wellness and Life Stage Care
  • Faster Recovery: Significantly reduces the post-operative downtime required for soft tissue and orthopaedic procedures.
  • Improved Mobility: Increases muscle strength, stamina, and joint flexibility.
  • Better Pain Management: Reduces chronic pain, often lowering the necessary dosage of long-term analgesic medication, particularly for arthritis sufferers.
  • Increased Quality of Life: Restores the ability to enjoy walks, play, and normal daily activities.
