VACCINATIONS & PARASITE PREVENTION
Gold-Standard Protection for Your Pet

Vaccinations and parasite control form the cornerstone of your pet's preventative health plan.
GOLD-STANDARD VACCINATION PROTOCOLS
Vaccinations protect your pet from the most common life-threatening diseases they can encounter at home, in the park, or at a boarding facility. We follow the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) recommendations, tailoring our protocols to local risk factors and emphasising patient comfort and safety.
PART ONE

QVCC's Commitment to Superior Canine Protection
We go the extra mile to provide a superior standard of protection and administration comfort for your dog.
- Leptospirosis Availability: We include the Leptospirosis (Lepto) vaccine as part of our core recommendations. This bacterial disease, often spread through the urine of infected animals or contaminated water, can cause severe kidney and liver damage and can even be transmitted to humans. We ensure this vital protection is readily available.
- Reduced Reaction Risk: We utilise the Intranasal Canine Cough (Kennel Cough) Vaccine. Administering this vaccine via the nose, rather than an injection, significantly reduces the chance of a vaccine reaction in your dog, leading to a much smoother experience.
- Highest Coverage Canine Cough Option: We use the highest level of Canine Cough vaccine coverage available to ensure your dog has the best possible immunity against Parainfluenza virus and Bordetella bronchiseptica. While no vaccine is 100% preventative, using the superior option means if your pet does contract the infection, symptoms are generally much milder, resembling a simple cold rather than a severe, life-threatening respiratory infection.
Feline Vaccinations
Our feline protocol ensures protection against the core diseases and, importantly, Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV).
- Core F3 Vaccine: Protects against Feline Respiratory Diseases (Cat Flu), Feline Calicivirus, and Feline Parvovirus (Feline Panleucopaenia Virus), which is often rapid and fatal.
- FIV Vaccine: This vaccine protects against Feline AIDS, a viral infection mainly spread through bite wounds from infected cats. We recommend this protection due to local risk factors in Central Queensland.
SUPERIOR PARASITE PREVENTION
Protection against fleas, ticks (including the Paralysis Tick), and intestinal worms requires reliable, continuous action. Our focus is on offering preventative options that remove the reliance on human memory and maximise safety.
PART TWO

Coverage: The Power of Injectables
For ultimate peace of mind and safety, we strongly recommend the non-over-the-counter injectable preventatives:
- Yearly Flea and Tick Injection: This product provides continuous coverage for the entire year. Once administered by our qualified team, you do not have to worry about forgetting a monthly dose or whether your pet spat out a tablet.
- Yearly Heartworm Injection: This ensures reliable protection against the devastating effects of heartworm disease. Because the medication is in the system, you eliminate the risk associated with forgetting monthly doses, which can be fatal if protection lapses.
Safety and Risk Management
We understand that pet products must be safe for the entire family:
- Eliminating Residue Risk: Injectable products offer a major safety advantage because there is no risk of children or family members interacting with topical residues. With spot-on products, there is a risk that if kids pat the dog immediately after application, they can get the product on their hands and potentially ingest it. Our injectable options remove this concern entirely.
- Screened Products: We only stock high-quality, veterinary-grade spot-ons and oral products that have been vetted by our veterinarians for efficacy, ensuring that any product we recommend offers reliable, high-level protection.
VACCINATION AND PREVENTION SCHEDULE
Puppies and Kittens (The Critical First Year)
Puppies and kittens require a series of initial vaccinations to build their lasting immunity as the antibodies passed from their mothers wear off. This schedule is often:
- 8 Weeks: First Vaccination
- 12 Weeks: Second Vaccination
- 16 Weeks: Last Vaccination in the initial course.
During these initial visits, we will also start your pet on a comprehensive parasite control plan, including necessary deworming and initiating flea/tick protection.
Adult Pets (Yearly Boosters)
Like all mammals, immunity can weaken over time. To maintain peak protection:
- Annual Health Check: We recommend yearly health checks, coinciding with essential booster vaccinations, to ensure your pet's immunity is maintained throughout their life. This check is also a crucial opportunity to perform a comprehensive nose-to-tail physical exam.

During your next General Consultation, our veterinarian will discuss your pet's specific lifestyle (e.g., travel, boarding, exposure to water, or contact with other animals) and tailor the optimal vaccination and parasite prevention protocol for them.
